An Outstanding Hoedown BY CAROLE DORRIS, Vice Chargée de Presse THERE WAS MUCH hootin,' hollerin,' and dancin' to the Western swing band the Beantown Buckaroos on June 12. The occasion? Why, the Colonial New England Bailliage's gen-u-ine Western hoedown! The setting could not have been lovelier: Bailli Sandy Kraft and Bailli Honoraire Gerald Kraft graciously opened their home, which features a beautiful patio overlooking a tree-lined pond. Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Russ Litin co-hosted. In the spirit of the evening, attend- ees dressed in Western garb, complete with ten-gallon hats, plaid shirts, and cowboy boots. Upon arrival, they were gifted with bandana-print scarves. The group admired the "El Rancho Kraft" archway adorned with fake horseshoes (made by Bailli Kraft), hay bales, and antique farm tools supplied by Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Litin. The tables were topped with bandana-print cloths and checkered plates. Some folks wore sheriff's badges, but Bailli Kraft claimed that as the chapter's leader, she was the real sheriff. Fortunately, despite the flowing libations, she didn't have to make any arrests. B.T.'s Smokehouse in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, provided the main dishes. Bailli Kraft prepared the deli- cious appetizers, and Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Litin brought additional tasty offerings. A light, fluffy cake bear- ing the words "Colonial's Summer Fest 2018" was in equal parts fitting and sumptuous.
