Honoring a Beloved Member BY JENNIFER GARDNER, Vice Chancelier-Argentier THE HARTFORD BAILLIAGE honored the life of Maître de Table Restaurateur Joseph Musumeci with a dinner at Artisan Restaurant in the beautiful Delamar Hotel on May 6. A founding member of the Hartford Chapter, Maître de Table Restaurateur Musumeci was beloved for his cheerful kindness, gentle humanity, great enthusiasm, and gener- ous spirit. A restaurant owner and philanthro- pist, he also served as a Connecticut State Marshal. Every sum- mer, he hosted a party for confrères on his sailboat or by the docks in Mystic. Chef de Cuisine/ Maître Rôtisseur Thomas Kaldy and Maître Restaurateur Angie Perdelwitz pre- sented a magnificent feast in Artisan's lovely private room. As each dish was presented, Chef Kaldy detailed the ingredients and techniques used, while Bailli Gary Dunn gave eru- dite wine commentary. One highlight of the evening was the rare Tenuta di Fessina Musmeci Riserva Etna Rosso 2008 that Bailli Dunn was able to procure in honor of Maître de Table Restaurateur Musumeci, who hailed from Sicily and came to this country as a child. The wine was spectacu- larly aged and left nary a dry eye among this beloved member's best friends as a toast was lifted in his name.
