Nemours en Blanc BY B. PROUD, Vice Chargée de Presse THE FIRST STATE Bailliage's annual summer picnic was a stylish affair: on the sunny afternoon of June 24, mem- bers enjoyed a specially arranged visit to Nemours Mansion and Gardens in Wilmington, Delaware. Situated on three thousand acres and designed in the eighteenth-century French style, the ornate mansion was the home of Alfred I. duPont. Attendees arrived in summery white attire and had the option of spend- ing the first hour touring the elaborate home and gardens—the largest formal French gardens in North America. Making the day even more special, the food was provided by the CROP Foundation and served by students in the William Penn High School Bistro culi- nary arts program. Founded by Maître Rôtisseur York Poole, CROP fosters edu- cational and employment opportunities for promising culinary students. Titled "An Afternoon in Provence," the menu carried the event's French theme to a delicious new level. The bailliage provided the wines, although attendees were welcome to bring their own as well. The commit- tee, chaired by Officier Christina Adler, did a fabulous job of coordinating this special event.
