East Meets West—HGTC Foundation Gala BY EMMA RUTH BRITTAIN, Vice Chargée de Presse THE MYRTLE BEACH Bailliage and the Horry-Georgetown Technical College held their annual joint gala at the college's International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach on March 3, 2018. Approximately 140 guests attended. In accordance with the "East Meets West" menu theme, deli- cious Vietnamese and Japanese dishes were served with wines from Italy, Japan, France, Australia, Washington State, and California. The event was hosted by Culinary Institute Executive Director/Conseiller Culinaire Provincial Joe Bonaparte, along with faculty, staff, and stu- dents. Their remarkable efforts in orchestrating this event resulted in a spectacular evening of food, fun, and entertainment, with all auction proceeds benefiting the Culinary Institute. In addition to Myrtle Beach confrères, honored guests included HGTC Foundation officers, HGTC Area Commission members, and HGTC Executive Leadership Commission representatives. The highlight of the event was the live auction. Up for bid were experiences and items that included weekend packages to New York and Las Vegas; private cooking classes; tickets to Monday after the Masters; and an EZ-Go Golf Cart. Auction participants enjoyed the friendly competition and were generous with their bids. The event raised $76,155. Everyone was quite impressed by the culinary students who helped plan and execute the event. One and all are eagerly anticipating next year's gala!
