Building a Good Foundation I am pleased to announce that we have had numerous contributions to establish a Shelly Margolis Endowed Fund. This wonderful tribute by our many members honors the memory of our beloved Foundation Trustee Emeritus. Michael and Mary Ann Ty also recently established an endowed fund, and the Pressners augmented their endowment fund with a substantial contribution. A Foundation Friends event is planned for the National Mondiale Meeting in Napa, and a Second Annual Gala Dinner is planned for August 3, 2019 in Orlando, with the proceeds divided between the Chaîne Foundation and the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation. The Chaîne Foundation is a tax-exempt organization established in 1993 with a goal and a purpose of providing scholarships to deserving culinary and oenological students, which is in keeping with the goals of the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, Bailliage des Etats-Unis. The Foundation's grants to culinary and oenological students provide welcome financial aid to young confrères and consoeurs who will someday be staffing the restaurants and hotels we enjoy during our Chaîne and Mondiale events. At this early stage of their careers, even a few dollars can ease their financial strain and give them the peace of mind to passionately pursue their studies. Almost all of the Foundation funds are from contributions by Chaîne members, through annual- dues donations by thousands of members, the Foundation Friends' annual contributions, and the Endowment donors. Donors who give $1,000 or more a year of unrestricted funds are automatically designated as Foundation Friends and entitled to the benefits of the program, which include a Foundation Friends pin for their Chaîne ribbon, being listed in Gastronome for as long as they maintain their member- ship in the group, inclusion on a plaque of donors to be displayed in the Chaîne National office, and invitations to special Friends events. All funds raised through this program are used to support the education of young culinary students and sommeliers. The Endowment Program permanently recognizes individuals who contribute in a single year $10,000 or more, with the income from their fund supporting the scholarship programs. John H. Burson Foundation Chair 2 0 1 9 v 1 :: G A S T R O N O M E :: 23 PHILANTHROPY
