BY DEIDRA M. STITCH, Dame de la Chaîne THE SANTA BARBARA/OJAI Mondiale's event to commemorate Bastille Day on July 14 was filled with all manner of fun. The invitation asked attendees to "bring your own bottle of wine that you would be proud to share with your fellow wine connoisseurs," and they were delighted to oblige. The scrumptious food was catered by Rock Chef Rolls Owner/Chef Alberto Vazquez, whose résumé includes stints at high-end restaurants and world-class resorts. Attendees enjoyed what amounted to a gourmet meal consisting of tray-passed treats that the chef and his team prepared in his food truck. Dame de la Chaîne Deidra Stitch and Bailli Ronald Stitch hosted the event at their home in the hills of the Conejo Valley in Thousand Oaks, California. While the festivities primarily took place indoors, the warm, clear evening offered up a lovely sunset that drew attendees outside. In addition to the exquisite wines brought by fellow confrères, Co-Owner/ Winemaker Stanley Barrios and Co-Owner/Director of Sales Elena Martinez of TOP Winery, a Paso Robles operation that specializes in Rhône varietals, treated the group to a tasting of their current- release wines. It was a memorable way to celebrate a holiday that is important to the Chaîne and its French heritage. G SANTA BARBARA/OJAI Santa Barbara/Ojai Mondiale members.
