Foxen Wine Dinner BY VIVIAN RAY, Bailli AT THE DASHIELL House on February 20, 2018, Foxen Vineyard & Winery Co-Founder/Co-Owner Dick Doré treated San Antonio Mondiale members to some of his delicious wines. President/General Manager/Maître de Table Restaurateur Moe Lazri prepared a tasty dinner to pair with the selections. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Dashiell House is located in La Villita, an arts village in down- town San Antonio. Lovely weather was conducive to an out- door reception, which afforded beautiful views of the Riverwalk and Garden Plaza. Amid flower beds and palm trees, members nibbled salmon mousse blini and sipped Foxen Pinot Noir. Winemaker Doré grew up on Rancho Tinaquaic, a large piece of land in Santa Barbara County purchased by his great-great-grandfather, Benjamin Foxen. After working in banking for years, Winemaker Doré and his family moved to Europe; it was while trav- eling through France, Spain, and Italy that his love of wine developed. In the 1970s, his dream of founding a winery brought him back to California. In 1985, he and Co-Founder/Co-Owner Bill Wathen established Foxen Vineyard & Winery at Rancho Tinaquaic. The evening ended with a raffle, in which some lucky attendees won bottles of wine to take home.
