Oregon Pinot Camp at the Gage BY STEPHANIE BLASER, Vice Chargée de Presse CHICAGO MONDIALE MEMBERS celebrated Mother's Day on May 13 the best way they knew how: with out- standing food and wine. "It turns out, the thing moms want to do is go to a wine dinner," joked Gage Hospitality Group Beverage Director/Sommelier Jon McDaniel. A celebration of pinot noirs from Oregon's Willamette Valley, the event featured selections from four of the region's top wineries. Sommelier McDaniel and Vice Echanson Todd Arkebauer styled the evening after the famed Oregon Pinot Camp, widely con- sidered the country's best event for som- meliers, buyers, and distributors. Sommelier McDaniel, who was named "Sommelier of the Year" by Food & Wine magazine in 2018, invited principals from Argyle, Beckham Estate Vineyard, Chehalem, and Montinore Estate to share both their wines and their vast knowledge of the region. Eight additional wines were served with the four- course meal, which was inspired by a traditional Pacific Northwest salmon bake. The menu, crafted by Executive Chef Christopher Gawronski, included a generous por- tion of foie gras mousse. "I had someone in the back say, 'Wow, that's a lot of foie gras,'" said Chef Gawronski, "and I said, 'Well, they can handle it.'" Everyone in attendance could.
