Annual Induction at the Fashion Island Hotel BY SHERYLE ULYATE, Far West Chargée de Presse Provincial NEWPORT BEACH BAILLIAGE members gath- ered at the five-diamond Fashion Island Hotel on March 24, 2018 for the chapter's forty-second annual induction dinner. The reception and cer- emony took place on the lovely garden ter- race. Bailli Provincial Phil Kress served as inducting officer, with assistance from Bailli David Weinberg. The chapter welcomed Professionnel du Vin Shawn Yang, Chevalier Randall Manaka, and Dames de la Chaîne Diane Bangar, Joanne Carle-Accornero, Christine Avakoff, and Thuy Pham-Satrappe. Bailli Weinberg pre- sented Chevalier Bill Podlich with his com- mandeur pin for twenty years of membership and support. Executive Chef David Man, a longtime star on the Orange County dining scene, recently returned to the hotel to oversee all culinary operations. He planned a unique dining experience for this celebratory event. Executive Banquet Chef T.C. Parnprome, together with his amazing team—which included acclaimed Pastry Chef Andy de la Cruz—executed the delicious, visu- ally stunning six-course menu. Vice Echanson David Ashkenaze entertained all with his interesting com- mentary about the Italian wines selected to accompany the courses. The evening was a joyous one, as the new members met and shared stories with their fellow Newport Beach confrères while savoring a superb meal.
