Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Andrew Cappuccino and Chargée de Presse Provincial/ Buffalo Bailli Helen Cappuccino. French Elegance with a Legend BY PATRICK J. EGAN, Vice Chargé de Presse ON OCTOBER 17, French Deputy Consul Général Eric Bayer hosted a delightful evening for the New York Bailliage at the French Consulate. First Maître d'Hôtel Louis Lélias oversaw the flawless service. In keeping with tradition, the champagne reception was held in the Salon Cheminée. The repast was prepared under the direction of acclaimed Chef Yann Nury. Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Honoraire Omar Khan has been tireless in his pursuit to procure the finest food and wines for members. On this night, he outdid himself by securing the pres- ence of honored guest Pierre Lurton, wine- maker of some of the best Bordeaux, includ- ing Châteaux Cheval Blanc and d'Yquem. Venison and truffles were met with Château Cheval Blanc 2006 and 2000, leaving no doubt as to why, until 2012, Cheval Blanc was one of only two estates to receive the high- est rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé A status. Château Cheval Blanc 1983 was another standout among the superb line-up. For the finale, wineglasses were filled with Château d'Yquem 1950! This spicy, burnished-amber gem paired beautifully with pineapple tarte tatin and was the perfect end to an evening of elegance and joie de vivre.
