Letter from the Editor-in-Chief As more chapters are submitting stories to Gastronome , and the quality trend is upward, we have an overage of stories. As you know, we will run a number of 1-page local stories in Gastronome Extra! Winter 2018. We applaud our many vice chargés de presse and chargés de presse provinciaux for their commitment to quality reporting, which energizes our connection of the 127 bailliages and 10 regions in the U.S. Chaîne through our national magazines. It is a privilege to serve as editor-in-chief and to work with our efficient and creative Gastronome staff: Managing Editor Carolyn March and Graphic Designer Catherine Russell. On page 8, we have a special feature on Chef Jacques Pépin, who was inducted by Bailli Délégué Harold Small into the Connecticut Bailliage in April. You'll see coverage of that dinner, orchestrated by Connecticut Bailli Ginnie Kagan and Northeast Bailli Provincial Mont Stern, in our next Gastronome . We are proud to count Chef Pépin among our ranks. We are delighted to cameo Savannah Bailli/Chef Rôtisseur Jean-Yves Vendeville, who received the prestigious Chevalier de l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the Consul Général of France (Atlanta) Louis de Corail at the Savannah Technical College Culinary Institute in December 2017. Our feature on Chef Vendeville starts on page 16. Members enjoyed our two national culinary/competition weekends this spring: the National Société Mondiale du Vin Weekend/Young Sommeliers Competition and the National Culinary Weekend/ Young Chefs Rôtisseurs, Pastry, and Military competitions.
