The Gift That Keeps on Giving BY JULIE TILTON, Vice Chargée de Médias Sociaux SOME LACS ET des Bois Bailliage members learned how an act of giving by one person can spread to and touch the lives of many people. Cary Attar, a Woodlands-area philanthropist and restaurateur, donated a soirée valued at $10,000 for auction at a fund-raiser for the Montgomery County American Heart and Stroke Association. Attending the gala were several Lacs et des Bois members, who, after some spirited bidding, won the soirée. They decided to share their good fortune and use the prize to raise money for the Chaîne Foundation! On October 9, the chapter's Mondiale contingent held a dinner at Mr. Attar's Fielding's Local Kitchen + Wine Bar. Attendees gained admittance by writing checks to the Chaîne Foundation. In addition, nine bottles of wine from members' cellars were raffled off, raising addi- tional funds for the Foundation. The highlight of the evening was a $2,000 scholarship presentation to Art Institute of Houston Academic Director Stephen Griffin. Thanks original auction winners, and the evening's attendees, $4,065 was raised for future Chaîne Foundation scholarships. Who knows…maybe a scholarship recipient will one day be work- ing at one of Mr. Attar's restaurants, and confrères will be able to see their gift come full circle.
