Seeing Red (Poinsettias and Wine) BY KATHY SHAY, Southwest Chargée de Presse Provincial ON DECEMBER 9, Austin Mondiale members pranced to the beauti- ful home of Dame de la Chaîne Lael Hasty and Chevalier Obie Hasty, where they found a wonderland of delights, including the house itself, which was decked out for the season. Traditional holiday red was prom- inent in the abundant poinsettias and the women's elegant dresses and jackets. Vice Echanson Honoraire Allen Valliant sported a red chapeau, and Chevalier Hasty donned his Santa hat. The Hastys epitomized the generosity for which the season is known by donating not only the incredible dinner—which they pro- duced entirely themselves—but also by giving the evening's proceeds to the Austin Bailliage. Maître Rôtisseur Steve Mannion, a renowned pastry chef, prepared the dessert of orange Bavarian cheese mousse with caramel sauce. Yum! The holiday spirit was contagious (helped along by some fine wines), as members moved about the house, chatting with friends. A boisterous wine exchange also got the adrenaline going. Everyone left with a 90+-rated wine to enjoy during the holidays and to remind them of the bonhomie of the evening. This annual party is the Austin Chapter's favorite event, and this year in particular, no one was anxious to make a "Hasty" retreat!
