in the Desert BY DAVID LAMB, Vice Chancelier-Argentier A HIGHLIGHT OF the Palm Springs Bailliage's Chaîne season was the chapter's annual induction dinner held on January 11 at the picturesque Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, California. Reminiscent of a Tuscan villa surrounded by citrus orchards, olive trees, and lush landscaped vistas, it was the perfect setting for this cel- ebratory event. Bailli Craig Surdy brought a Methuselah- sized bottle of Château Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon 1997 from his personal cellar for attendees to enjoy; all found it exceptional. He then introduced presiding officer Chancelier National Heinz Hofmann, who, after providing a brief history of the Chaîne, inducted Chevaliers W. Gardner Barker, Gary Honts, Gerald Pharris, James Sutton, Jr., and Lance Walsh and Dames de la Chaîne Marie Himelman and Laura Walsh. Chambellan Provincial/ Reno Bailli Ranson Webster was on hand to witness the inductions. Bailli Surdy then elevated Vice Chargé de Missions Lee Morcus and recognized other members for their longstanding service to the Palm Springs Chapter. Executive Chef Eric Wadlund and his outstand- ing team prepared a feast befitting the elegant occasion. Following the meal, Bailli Surdy thanked them for a din- ner and service worthy of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs!
