A Feast at Vienna Café & Wine Bar BY JANA SOELDNER DANGER, Southeast Chargée de Presse Provincial Honoraire WHEN A CONFRÈRE hosts a Chaîne event at his or her own restaurant, it is bound to be a showpiece dinner. That was certainly the case on March 13 when Vice Echanson Honoraire Per Jacobsen invited the Fort Lauderdale Bailliage to the Vienna Café & Wine Bar, which he has owned and operated since 1999. Chef Courtney Burks served as his culinary collaborator. Chef Jacobsen is a native of Copenhagen, and his menus reflect his European heritage. He began his culinary career at age sixteen, when he became a chef's apprentice at a hotel. Although his boss warned him of how difficult it was to succeed in the world of fine dining, he remained undaunted, working on cruise ships and at prestigious hotels before opening his own restaurant. During the reception, the party spilled out onto the patio to enjoy a per- fect South Florida evening. As attendees savored the delicious seven-course meal, Chef Jacobsen and his wife, Linda, took time to mingle with them. At evening's end, the staff took a bow, and Bailli John Kane presented Chef Burks with a com- memorative plaque. As the group was leaving, many confrères expressed the wish to be invited back soon!
