Spectacular Celebration BY MARILYN LAROCQUE, Vice Chargée de Presse GIGANTIC WREATHS, HUGE gift boxes, and enormous Christmas tree ornaments adorned the Frank Gehry-designed Keep Memory Alive Event Center at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health for the Las Vegas Bailliage's holiday celebration on December 16. A children's choir performed at the reception, which featured fantastic hors d'oeuvres prepared by two amaz- ing celebrity chefs, Hubert Keller and Rick Moonen. With assistance from Chef Keller's Corporate Chef Laurent Pillard and Fleur Executive Chef Lupe Avila, they presented a spectacular feast. Mandalay Bay Executive Pastry Chef Christophe Feyt masterminded the dessert. After Bailli Larry Ruvo greeted guests, Conseiller Gastronomique National Ira Falk inducted seven new members: Maîtres Restaurateurs Tracy Vu, Martin Koleff, and Allan Vu; Maître Rôtisseur Khai Vu; Professionnels du Vin Sam Merritt and Joseph Phillips; and Chevalier Stowe Shoemaker. A signal honor, Las Vegas Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Michael Severino was elevated to the national office of vice conseiller gas- tronomique national. The U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard launched the ceremony, and Breanna DeSantos, daughter of Master Sommelier Luis DeSantos, sang "God Bless America." Shinobu Ichiyanagi (the "Candyman") created elegant sugar figures. Emcee Brett Rigby introduced the entertainment, which included singer-composer Chadwick and his Chadwick Johnson Band, classical pianist Bogdan Ota, dancer Kelly Cabrera, and magician Simon Winthrop.
