Letter from the Editor-in-Chief There are only three of us here at national Gastronome with our desks thousands of miles from one another in three different states. Carolyn March, our managing editor, works out of Massachusetts; our art and design guru, Catherine Russell, designs in North Carolina; and my desk, when it appears briefly under stacks of paper, is in California. Although many of you haven't met Carolyn, she is the nuts and bolts of our triad and is responsible for keeping track of all submissions, photos, and captions as well as line editing every sentence you read in our magazines (including Gastronome Extra! ). Catherine is full of creative energy and humor, and doesn't hesitate to offer an opinion on some of my over-the-top or under-the-radar ideas. She designs each page and works with empty spaces better than anyone I've ever seen. I also rely on Administrative Director Linda Muldoon in our national Chaîne office in New Jersey for getting us up and running on line, and also for keeping me up to date on your awards, elevations, and any changes that occur between publications. Under the direction of our new Executive Director Kevin Dunn, we are full steam ahead, with good memories and heartfelt thanks to our outgo- ing Executive Director Clyde Braunstein, whom we wish "happy trails and beautiful new horizons." For our cover, we chose to cameo the 2016 International Young Sommeliers Competition winner, Martin Sheehan-Stross, who hails from Michael Mina Restaurant in San Francisco. Read about the competition in our international section. Our feature stories spotlight two remarkable people: Maître Rôtisseur John Folse, CEC, and distinguished philanthropist Las Vegas Bailli Larry Ruvo. Also in this issue you will find Hawaii/Pacific Islands Chargée de Presse Provincial Judith Kellogg's story on our National Young Sommeliers Competition held in Sonoma; a multi-region account of our regional Young Sommeliers Competitions by Vice Echanson des Jeunes Sommeliers David Merrill; and Southeast Chargée de Presse Provincial Jennifer Denlinger's coverage of our National Young Chefs Rôtisseurs Competition held in Orlando. Our many bailliage stories are a testament to the creativity and hard work of our baillis and to strong, concise reporting by our vice chargés de presse and regional chargés de presse. We sincerely thank them all! Marie Addario Vice Chargée de Presse National Editor-in-Chief, Gastronome and Gastronome Extra!
