Candlelight BY DEL FOXTON, Vice Chargée de Presse JANUARY 27 WASN'T the usual tropical evening on Grand Bahama. There were high winds and driving rain as Grand Bahama Bailliage members gathered at Luciano's of Chicago for their annual induction event. A favorite dining destination, Luciano's was suddenly plunged into darkness. It was unfortunate, given the large group of hungry connoisseurs ready for a night of indulgence. Adding to the strange- ness, attendees could see lights shining elsewhere around the port. Nevertheless, the induction ceremony needed to happen, so quick-thinking staff members created a lovely outdoor set- ting with shimmering candles. Champagne bottles were popped, hors d'oeuvres were served, and soon all was well again. Bailli Provincial Ron Overend and Chargée de Presse Provincial/Nassau Bailli Isabella Overend presided over what proved to be a lively and fun ceremony. It was only after all of the inductees were duly anointed and the elevations completed that the lights came back on and the evening continued indoors. The loss of electricity may have set Chef Kyle Sawyer and his team back, but it was not evident in the food's preparation, presentation, or service. Camaraderie and delicious fare by candlelight amid stormy weather— just another Chaîne event on Grand Bahama Island!
