Cole Porter at the Edge BY WALT HEINZER, Vice Chargé de Presse A FEW HOURS respite from the much-needed rains on March 12 made for a safe journey for Napa-Sonoma Bailliage members head- ing to their "Gourmet Evening with Cole Porter" at Stone Edge Farm Winery's Edge restaurant in downtown Sonoma. The eve- ning began a few doors down at Kamen Estate Wines tasting room, where members enjoyed a surprise visit from its owner, screenwriter Robert Kamen. Back at Edge, Bailli Gene Daly led members in raising their glasses of Charles Krug Generations 2012 in honor of their friend Professionnel du Vin Peter Mondavi, Sr., who had recently passed away at the age of 101. Acclaimed Chef/Sommelier Fiorella Butron presented diners with a spectacular meal featuring ingredients harvested primarily from Stone Edge's organic farm, which produces wide varieties of fruits, vegetables, olives, herbs, eggs, and honey. Stone Edge wines were expertly paired by Director of Hospitality Philippe Thibault and Director of Dining and Private Events Larry Nadeau. As attendees lingered over Cockburn Vintage Port 1994, Cole Porter Society Founder Noah Griffin performed with exceptional style and grace such classics as "Begin the Beguine," "So in Love," and "Don't Fence Me In." G NAPA-SONOMA Induction Gala at the Fairview Inn BY JENNIFER SCHULMEIER, Vice Chargée de Presse WITH MORE THAN fifty confrères in attendance, the Jackson Bailliage held its annual induction gala at the Fairview Inn on January 23. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the award- winning inn provided an elegant stage for Chef de Cuisine Corey Ellison and Maître de Hôtelier Peter Sharp's stellar cuisine, which was paired with fine wines chosen by Vice Echanson Norm Rush. Bailli Provincial William Hirsh was assisted by Bailli Ralph Daniel in inducting Chevaliers Adam Lewis, William Cook, Elliott Haller, Stephen Helms, Billy Long, Knox Ross, Jack Torrence, George Shirley, Michael Upton, and Philip Meredith and Dames de la Chaîne Melissa Torrence, Gina Gandy, Gwendolyn Ross, Jamie Ross, and Denise Meredith. Eight confrères were then inducted into the Jackson Mondiale. Also during the ceremony, Officier Maître Restaurateur Steven O'Neill was elevated, and Chevalier John Cook received his commandeur pin for twenty years of Chaîne membership. Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Greg Schulmeier and Vice Chargé de Missions Suman Das were each awarded a Bronze Star of Excellence, and Officier Melissa Daniel received the Bronze Mondiale Medal of Honor.
