1 Chef + 3 Somms = Priceless BY GRAIG SMITH, Vice Chargé de Presse THE CINCINNATI MONDIALE held its fall event on September 27, 2015 at Owner/Chef Jose Salazar's recently opened Mita's restaurant in downtown Cincinnati. This Latin American establishment was inspired by the chef's grandmother. Although the chef grew up in New York, he spent summers with her in Medellín, Colombia, and credits her with teaching him the fine art of both Spanish and Latin American cuisine. Professionnel du Vin Mary Horn, Professionnel du Vin Kathy Merchant, and Dame de la Chaîne Bethanie Butcher were charged with selecting wines for each of the three courses. As an added twist, Professionnel du Vin Horn was asked to choose wines from Portugal; Professionnel du Vin Merchant was asked to select wines from South America; and Dame de la Chaîne Butcher was asked to pair wines from Spain. Each sommelier shared innovative wines that brought out the unique qualities of each dish. Moreover, the event raised $1,075 to support the chapter's local young chefs. This col- laboration among Vice Echanson Mike Monnin, Bailli George Elliott, Chef Salazar, and the three sommeliers drew high praise from all in attendance.
