Double the Fun BY STEVE GERKIN, Southwest Echanson Provincial Honoraire AT THE SUMMIT Club on October 22, 2015, the Tulsa Mondiale more than doubled its size with the induction of thirty new members. With fifty-eight confrères now in the wine subgroup, the Tulsa Bailliage boasts the second largest Mondiale contin- gent in the Southwest Region. Led by Grand Echanson Charlie Bennett, Bailli Sue Gerkin, and Echanson Provincial Honoraire Steve Gerkin, the spirited induction ceremony was punctuated by laughs, cheers, and, perhaps not surprisingly, wine consumption. Grand Echanson Bennett's wife, Jill Philipson, charmed confrères with her conversation and kindness, becom- ing the belle of the evening. Executive Chef Steve Sotelo's French-based menu was paired with wines chosen by General Manager Tony Zaranti, who drew from the Loire, Burgundy, Alsace, Northern Rhône, and Bordeaux regions. Enhancing the dining experience were sunset views of the city from the club's thirty-story vantage point. The revelers raucously saluted the initiates while supping on fare befitting the highest of Chaîne standards. A postprandial salute to the inductees con- tinued in the club's lounge. Port, cognac, and champagne put a satisfying footnote on the success of the Tulsa Mondiale's grand induction dinner.
