BY HELEN CAPPUCCINO, Northeast Chargée de Presse Provincial/Buffalo Bailli ON DECEMBER 10, avowed Francophile Vice Echanson Honoraire Sharon Osgood led a tasting for Buffalo Mondiale members. The offerings came from her own cellar as well as from the cellars of Chambellan Provincial Mont Stern and Hartford Bailli Gary Dunn. Chambertin's history includes producing a red wine that Napoleon loved so much he insisted on having it brought to him while in battle. This event was a combined horizontal and vertical tasting that explored two highly regarded Gevrey-Chambertin producers: cousins Bernard and Claude Dugat. The Dugat family, from the northern end of the Côte de Nuits, is in its twelfth generation of winemaking. Bernard Dugat's domaine dates back to the twelfth century, and his cellar was once the crypt of a leprosarium! The evening opened with Burgundy's renowned Bichot Crémant de Bourgogne. The menu, prepared by Erie Community College Culinary Instructor/Vice Chancelier-Argentier Honoraire Dorothy Johnston, Chef Rôtisseurs Kristin Goss and Jackie Bamrick, and several advanced culinary students, featured traditional Burgundian treats. With dessert, the group enjoyed a classic Burgundian drink, Kir Royale. Made with Thuriet Crème de Cassis, the classic Burgundian black currant liqueur, mixed with Bichot Crémant de Bourgogne Rosé, this cocktail created a polished finish to a fantastic Burgundy experience.
