Over-the-Rhine Magic BY GRAIG SMITH, Vice Chargé de Presse CINCINNATI BAILLIAGE MEMBERS cast away the winter blahs on February 21 with an enchanting din- ner at Mercer Over the Rhine restaurant in the recently renovated section of downtown Cincinnati known as Over-the-Rhine. This Italian-European eatery is owned by Jon Zipperstein, managed by Emmy Fredericks, and sup- plied with innovative offerings by Executive Chef Dan Stoltz. It has a chic cane bistro décor and large picture win- dows that allow patrons to look out onto the bustling city. Mr. Zipperstein's first foray into the Cincinnati dining scene was the popular Asian eatery Kaze; the group agreed that Mercer is equally outstanding. The five-course extravaganza was paired with wines meticulously selected by Vice Echanson Mike Monnin and his com- mittee. Bailli George Elliott wanted to hold a Chaîne event at Mercer Over the Rhine since attending a memorable wine dinner there. For this occasion, Chef Stoltz collaborated with Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Barbara Lancor on the menu. The evening's ambiance, cuisine, and camaraderie wove a magic spell over all in attendance.
