Passionate Laotian Cuisine BY CLAUDETTE VERONICA FERRON Vice Chargée de Presse ON MARCH 15, Washington, D.C. Bailliage members enjoyed a culinary escape to Laos—an emerald jewel nestled in Southeast Asia. Attendees taxied into the heart of the Columbia Heights neigh- borhood to arrive at Thip Khao—the only Washington, D.C. restaurant to receive the coveted honor of being included on Bon Appétit's list of the 50 Best New Restaurants in America in 2015. This manifestation of Laotian culinary heritage in the nation's capital is the realization of Owner/Chef Seng Luangrath's longtime dream. Her culinary collaborator is her son, Co-Owner/Chef Bobby Pradachith. Confrères embarked on a thrill- ing (and spicy!) adventure across the extraordinary landscape of Asian cuisine. Throughout the feast, Chef Luangrath showcased Chef Pradachith's innova- tive spins on traditional Laotian dishes. During the intermezzo, attendees were treated to an enchanting performance by Lao Heritage Foundation musicians and dancers, among whom were phenom- enally talented local Laotian children. It is no wonder that this mother- and-son team has been so successful in establishing a restaurant that has quickly become a favorite among D.C. area foodies. G WASHINGTON, D.C.
